We are currently recruiting for motivated Peer Review Editors to join our Publishing team on a 12-month fixed term basis. This is an excellent and rare opportunity to take the next step in your publishing career, using your enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to contribute to the success and growth of our journals.

Role Summary

As an Editor, you will focus on ensuring the provision of an efficient peer review process across a portfolio of journals. Reporting to the Peer Review Team Manager, you’ll play an important role in improving author service and quality, supporting and supervising the team, and achieving the goals of the group. In collaboration with the Journal Development team, you will support initiatives aimed at improving our journals, capturing quality content and increasing market share.

Key job accountabilities include:

You’ll demonstrate expertise in the peer review process including reviewer selection, decision-making on articles, efficient handling of papers and ensuring the integrity of research published. You will lead and mentor team members to ensure targets are met and will be expected to contribute to and lead on continuous improvement initiatives to increase the efficiency and quality of our service.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and developing effective relationships with external stakeholders, you’ll take a proactive approach to listen to the scientific community and identifying promotional opportunities to improve journal visibility. You will have strong communication and organisational skills combined with commercial awareness and understanding of what it takes to make a journal attractive to its community, helping to make it the first choice for authors and readers.

Please note that this is an in-house position and should not be confused with an Editor-in-Chief role.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A degree or PhD in a relevant scientific subject
  • Expert knowledge and experience of peer review processes and awareness of COPE guidelines
  • Ability to take responsibility, assess complex situations, and work autonomously, but also as part of a team, motivating others
  • Excellent communication and networking skills, with the ability to build strong relationships

We know it is unusual for someone to tick every box so if you don’t meet all the criteria, but demonstrate most of the skills and experience we are looking for, and have the enthusiasm to work with us, go ahead and apply.

We aim to review applications soon after they are received and will arrange interviews when there’s someone we’re keen to meet, therefore we may conduct interviews prior to the closing date and reserve the right to close the advert early
