For our Publishing Unit LLA we are looking for:

Two Associate Editors (m/f)

Both part time 18 hours a week

Leiden office (blended working possible)

The Associate Editors will assist the Publishing Director and Acquisitions Editors in coordinating the publication of various books, journals, and online resources in the Asian Studies and Languages & Linguistics programs. The Associate Editors will be responsible for the organization and project management of these dynamic publishing programs and will further support their development. Tasks include guiding authors through the entire publishing process of their book, monitoring the book budget, coordinating the peer review process, updating the ERP system (Klopotek), and liaising with the Desk Editing, Sales, Marketing, and Finance teams. This multi-faceted position plays a pivotal role in Brill’s publishing operations globally.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Correspond and maintain relationships with authors, journal editors, and series editors regarding their projects;
  • Maintain publishing schedules for all titles, from pre-production through publication;
  • Assist Acquisitions Editors with book acquisitions, proposal and manuscript reviews, and related tasks;
  • Develop proficiency and work with various IT systems including Klopotek, Editorial Manager, and other systems to maintain project data and schedules;
  • Ensure book manuscripts and supporting materials are ready for production;
  • Proofread promotional texts and front matter for books, journals, and other publications;
  • Order gratis copies for authors, journal editors, and series editors;
  • Request and monitor payments for reviewers, editors, authors, and other stakeholders and service providers;
  • Coordinate with Marketing regarding e-bulletins, catalogs, flyers, the website, and social media;
  • Provide guidance to office interns as needed;
  • Assist with the organization of conference exhibits from the planning stage through post-conference reports (this may include travel both nationally and internationally);
  • Any other task assigned by the relevant Publishing Director or Acquisitions Editor.

Profile:

  • College degree required;
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with another language an advantage;
  • Background in linguistics and/or Asian studies is a plus;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, and communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  • Previous editorial experience strongly preferred;
  • Goal- and results-oriented.

The position will be based in the Netherlands. This function is evaluated as a grade VII function and based on prior experience the salary range is between € 37.500 - €55.000 gross annually.
