Image Screening Tools Providers | Evaluation Submissions for the Integrity Hub Are Now Being Accepted

The STM Integrity Hub was launched to equip the scholarly communication community with data, intelligence, and technology to protect research integrity.

Through a combination of shared data and experiences, and by harnessing technological innovation, the STM Integrity Hub offers a holistic approach to detect manuscripts with research integrity issues. The hub will provide tools and guidance to publishers to effectively and systematically screen manuscripts and respond to the increasing and alarming volume of materials entering scholarly communications that violate accepted research integrity norms and standards.

As part of the initiative, the STM Integrity Hub will provide a cloud-based environment for publishers to check submitted manuscripts for research integrity issues, consistent with applicable laws and industry best practice and fully respecting the laws and ethics of data privacy, competition and antitrust laws. In this environment, publishers may collaborate with third parties to develop and operate screening tools for the benefit of the entire scholarly ecosystem.

Images form an important component of integrity screening. The Working Group for Image Alteration and Duplication has developed a draft list of requirements and features that screening tools for image integrity issues should meet and offer, as well as their respective priorities for the publishing community. Here is the draft list.

The STM Integrity Hub invites providers of image screening tools to self-evaluate their solutions against this list. A list of providers with their evaluations will be shared with publishers, allowing them to select the appropriate solutions for their needs. Providers are invited to submit their evaluation until August 31th by sending their information to joris@stm-solutions.org. This email address can also be used for questions about the list of requirements or the process.
