IntechOpen Joins Presentations at Harvard and MIT on Open Access Books Addressing the Need for Fast Publishing with Peer Review

IntechOpen, the first native scientific publisher of Open Access books, stated its CEO/co-founder and scientist, Alex Lazinica, joined a presentation on Open Access books at Harvard and MIT, conducted by Mirena Bagur, MBA, a former course director at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, with a goal of familiarizing researchers of benefits of distributing peer-reviewed, scientific articles and providing access to scientific discovery to their colleagues worldwide.
Titled “How Publishing in Open Access Books Impacts Your Research Career,” the presentations were held to familiarize researchers, students and alumni at the Harvard Medical School and at MIT, as part of the Independent Activity period (IAP), with the concept of publishing in Open Access books and the correlation between scholarly communications and their careers.
The topics covered in the presentation included the demands for quality assurance, including peer-review, fast publishing, differences between journal and book chapter publishing, collaboration among complementary authors in the books, immediate exposure, dissemination of knowledge, and the post-publishing reporting on citations.
“The scientific community is rapidly adopting the concept of Open Access publishing, and while they may be aware of the benefits of publishing in journals, they are not as familiar that peer-reviewed books provide a perfect platform to expand on the research findings, and certainly don’t expect that books can be published in as little as eight months,” said Alex Lazinica, CEO and Founder of IntechOpen. “It was a pleasure to have exploratory conversations with my fellow scientists about ways their research, particularly if multidisciplinary, can get the most immediate exposure worldwide, while they can be informed about the citations.”
Conversations with researchers, alums and students were centered around the academic community needs for fast publishing while having an objective evaluation process for the editorial content, and the accuracy and relevance of data presented.
