Business Models for a New World | IFPI
Business Models for a New World | An STM Webinar Series
How might we reimagine business models in a world of Open at Scale? Let's look at innovations and models outside the academic publishing industry for inspiration and discussion.
We carry on with our series in conversation with Dr. David Price, Director of Global Insight and Analysis at IFPI — the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry — representing the recording industry worldwide.
In this 45-minute webinar, David will unpack how the recorded music industry has transformed itself after the external impact of digital piracy and within the continual evolution of the internet. After reorganisation, reformation, and revolution, the industry continues to innovate within the myriad of new opportunities brought about by the digital environment. He will explore how access to music online through a variety of methods has changed the engagement of consumers with music and artists and altered the work and approach of record companies.
What can we learn from the recording industry? Are the business models, policy, and content protection approaches relevant to academic publishing? How might new threats such as AI affect both industries? David will lend inspiration for us to draw comparisons and think in new ways about how to innovate in disseminating our content.
Dr. David Price leads his team in studying the habits of music listeners and analysing the worldwide music landscape, providing data to support IFPI policy goals and the work of the recorded music industry across the globe.
Format: 45-minute webinar, with 15 minutes for Q + A.
