Background:

As a leading global trade association for scholarly publishers, STM’s mission is to Advance Trusted Research. In 2023 we are launching a new strategy to deliver on our mission which prioritizes: Advancing Open Research, Advancing Research Integrity, Advancing Social Responsibility and Advancing Solutions, Standards and Technology. Three new committees are currently forming and we are seeking a Manager of Strategic Programmes to work with these committees to shape the future of scholarly communications across our industry.

This is a new and highly dynamic role that will report directly to STM’s CEO. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring STM makes progress on key strategic initiatives that build trust in science, publications and scholarly communications to advance trusted research globally. The Manager of Strategic Programmes will work across STM’s committees, collaborating with STM staff across functions, members of our committees and Board, as well as external stakeholders.

This is an ideal role for individuals looking to apply their experience at an industry-wide level to create impact for scholarly communications. We are seeking mid-level publishing professionals with experience in managing projects, delivering results, and linking organizational strategies to outcomes. Equally, senior publishing professionals who are looking to leverage their experience while having an opportunity to dive back into a more operational role across the industry are welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support, oversee and coordinate projects, work and initiatives across STM’s core strategic pillars.
  • Support strategic planning through introducing and progressing Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
  • Drive goal setting and track progress against goals, flagging when work is off track and work with committees and STM staff to resolve.
  • Ensure alignment across STM’s committees and strategic activities.
  • Track the work of Task and Finish groups (projects).
  • Act as the STM secretariat for committees, documenting committee meetings, setting agendas together with committee chairs, and preparing reporting to the STM Board.
  • Manage the adoption and active use of systems to enable STM to work smartly through our committees.

Ideal Candidates:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the academic publishing industry
  • 3+years’ experience of project management
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including with senior leadership
  • Analytical thinking with experience of managing groups to arrive at decisions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; organized, proactive and rigorous.

Other Information:

  • This is a full-time position, for a one-year fixed contract with the potential for renewal.
  • This role will be carried out from a virtual workplace/home office.
  • The role entails some travel, perhaps 3-6 trips annually.
  • We are seeking candidates located in Europe, with a preference for the UK, Germany, the Netherlands or Belgium, where we have established presences that allow us to employ staff.
  • STM is a global organization; the successful candidate should be able and willing to accommodate meetings in other time zones on occasion.

Compensation packages vary according to location, respecting local laws and practices.
