Edward Liebow

Ed Liebow is Executive Director of the American Anthropological Association, the Washington, DC-based scholarly and professional society with an international reach.

AAA publishes 23 journals with Wiley, stages several research conferences and an ethnographic film / media festival each year, supports professional development, and has an initiative to engage in wide ranging conversations on important but sometimes difficult topics like race and immigration.

Before joining AAA at the end of 2012, Ed had a long career as a research scientist/director with the non-profit Battelle Memorial Institute. Ed first joined Battelle in 1986, the year he received his PhD in cultural anthropology from Arizona State University.

He has conducted research and public policy analysis on a variety of energy, public health, and social policy issues concerning disadvantaged communities. He is affiliated with the University of Washington, and has been a visiting professor at Università Carlo Cattaneo (Castellanza, Italy), and a Senior Fellow of the Fulbright Commission.
