Daniel Kulp

Daniel Kulp has worked in the Editorial Office of the American Physical Society (APS) for nearly 17 years. Initially hired as an Assistant Editor for Physical Review B in 1996, he has since become the Editorial Director for all ten of the APS journals. During this time he has been involved in all aspects of publishing including peer-review, production, distribution, and personnel and financial management of journals. He is also part of the APS Strategic Management team which helps guide the Society. With 50 full-time professional editors and 60 part-time remote Associate and Senior Editors reporting to him, Dan has has become adept at "herding cats" and reaching consensus across the journals. He has also developed into the in-house expert on copyright and licensing issues, and has been at the forefront of APS's efforts in Open Access publishing. Dan led in the development and launch of the newest APS journal, Physical Review X. The journal, after only one year, has been selected by ALPSP as a finalist for Best New Journal in recognition of the marketing and editorial strategies employed in its launch and the success of the journal to date. Dan is active in STM through his participation in both Copyright and Legal Affairs and Public Affairs committees. APS represents over 51,000 physicists worldwide and the Physical Review family of journals, publishing 19,000 articles and 160,000 pages of physics annually, are among the most visible and respected journals in physics publishing.
