IOP Publishing are looking for a motivated Publisher to join our team on a permanent full-time basis. The role is to manage part of our materials science journal portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and rapidly expanding Journals Development team. If you’re passionate about scientific publishing and its impact, then look no further!

Role Summary

Publishers are responsible for shaping the strategy for a portfolio of journals and lead on its development towards those goals. As a Publisher, you will develop and implement commissioning plans through desk-based and in-person author interactions, as well as engage and manage Editorial Boards at the journal-level. Reporting into the Senior Publisher, this role will require you to work with other Publishers and Assistant Publishers across the Journals Development team, as well as with other stakeholders across the business.

What will you be doing?

Key job accountabilities include:

  • Working with the Senior Publisher to implement the portfolio and journals strategies;
  • Develop and review commissioning plans in line with journal growth;
  • Build new and develop existing relationships with potential authors and Editorial Board members through conference attendance and institutional visits;
  • Working on product development for existing titles and new journal launches.

About you:

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • STM publishing experience;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Demonstrable teamworking skills;
  • Stakeholder management experience;
  • A degree is essential and a PhD would be desirable.

The contractual location of this role is IOPP’s Bristol office but as there will not be a requirement for the person in this role to be in the office on a weekly basis, we are open to considering applicants from a wider geographical area who are happy to travel to Bristol for quarterly meetings, annual appraisals, one to one and team meetings, subject to business needs. IOPP has a flexible, hybrid working model in place, in which colleagues choose where they work the majority of the time.
