6th JST -STM Seminar

The transformation in scholarly publishing:

Open Access – future policy developments in Japan and practical experiences from implementation

Save the date for Wednesday, 1st November 2023 - this will be a VIRTUAL event.

Transformation of the scholarly publishing system has been happening for some decades on many fronts – including the progression and implementation of Open Access which is key to Open Research and the Open Science movement.

While Open Access has been there for some time, and many national policies are shaping up, Japan recently announced their national Open Access policy to be effective in 2025.

At the same time, stakeholders like Learned Societies are still facing some challenges to implement the various models of Open Access ensuring that their operations are future-proof and viable.
On the researcher site questions, relating to Open Access licensing are raised, whereas they are requested to fulfil the requirements by their funders and national policies. The topic of OA licensing is equally important for publishers as new requirements are appearing which are challenging.

In this upcoming seminar, the 6th joint JST / STM event supported by the International Association of Scientific,
Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) Japan Chapter, we will focus on some very particular aspects of Open Access while also learning more about the new National Japanese Open Access policy.
