IOP Publishing is seeking an enthusiastic and commercially aware publishing professional to join its dynamic and fast-growing open access (OA) journals team.

About the role:

As Publisher in the IOP Publishing journals team, you will be responsible for the editorial and commercial performance of a group of high-profile OA journals, working with the scientific community to identify the editorial and business development opportunities that will underpin the future growth and development of our OA programme.

You will rapidly establish yourself as a champion for your journals both within and outside the company, and you will use market insights as well as data to inform effective decision making and information sharing. The ability to maintain and build strong working relationships with colleagues as well as editorial boards, research groups and scientific societies to develop editorial strategies will be a crucial dimension to the role.

The successful candidate will need an understanding of journals publishing combined with an appetite for innovation and the skill to communicate complex messages clearly to a variety of audiences at all levels. All candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to focus on key priorities and show that they possess a strong drive to achieve results. Familiarity with and enthusiasm for open access publishing would be a distinct advantage and you should be able to demonstrate a wider interest in the changing world of scientific communication.

About you:

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a scientific field
  • Previous experience in STM journals or books publishing, ideally with experience working with society-owned journals
  • Business acumen, ideally with some experience of profit and loss accounts and businessplans
  • Exceptional communication and networking skills
  • Willingness to travel to meetings and conferences worldwide
