For the MRW team we are looking for a:

MRWProject Manager(m/f)

Fulltime, 36 hours per week

Leiden office (and partially from home)

The Major Reference Works team is responsible for carrying out publishing projects of Brill’s Publishing Units that do not fall within the framework of the 'standard' books or journals, according to plan and within budget, and for preparing content for electronic and / or printed publications. The definition of “content” in this context should be interpreted broadly and includes bibliographic descriptions and metadata that enable the user to locate and use certain information.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Translating a Publishing Plan for a specific publication into a Project Plan aimed at realizing the publication (s) within the agreed conditions. Drawing up an adequate budget, capacity- and time planning;
  • Progress monitoring: managing internal and external parties, timely identification of deviations from the planning and formulating and taking measures within the agreed framework;
  • Budget control: monitoring project costs and (imminent) overruns and proactively making change proposals (adjustments to budget / planning) to the publisher;
  • Periodically providing a progress report to the publisher;
  • Selecting external suppliers (translators, copy editors, etc.) Monitoring the contracted work, the associated budget and checking and approving invoices sent by external parties for work performed;
  • Instructing and supervising project team members such as authors, editors, freelancers, metadata specialists and other (external) parties involved in the publication;
  • Quality control: ensuring that the supplied content meets the standards. Where necessary instruct others about the standards to be used;
  • Building, managing and utilizing a network of advisors, translators, (copy)- editors, etc.;
  • Registration and recording of progress in project-specific Content Management Systems;
  • Ensuring a timely and correct handover to the Production department and / or Platform manager;
  • Documenting procedures and updating and expanding standards for “Brill projects” in consultation with fellow project managers.

Profile:

  • At least HBO / Bachelor Degree working and thinking level (preferably supplemented with Project Management training)
  • Knowledge of (electronic) publishing processes, (basic) knowledge of XML
  • Knowledge of the application possibilities of Content Management Systems
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Being able to cooperate well, and to be able to convince, negotiate and influence in a matrix organization without hierarchical powers
  • Performance, quality and service focused
  • Active knowledge of modern languages in speech and writing (minimum English and another modern language)
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

What we offer:

The position will be based in the Netherlands. This function is evaluated as a grade VII function and based on prior experience the salary range is between € 37.500 - €60.000 gross annually.
