Brill is looking for an:
Jr. Acquisitions Editor – International Law
full time 36 h/week

This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to maintain and further develop part of the International Law publishing program.

The Jr. Acquisitions Editor is responsible for increasing company profitability via acquisitions that are consistent with the company's reputation as a high-quality publisher. The role involves extensive author contact, proposal review, contract negotiation, promotional planning and monitoring of sales, budget planning, long-term planning for growth, and development of the program.

You will be guided and coached by your supervisor and will participate in training programs as appropriate. Your progress will be monitored through interim evaluations. In the position of Jr. Acquisitions Editor, you will be responsible for an assigned publishing program.

Key responsibilities include:

· Pursue an active and efficient acquisitions policy for new publications including books, journals, reference works, and electronic media;

· Manage the annual budget for the publishing program and ensure timely publication;

· Maintain, develop and expand relationships with authors, editorial boards, reviewers, advisors, and academic partners and evaluate their judgments;

· Monitor/assess developments in the field in order to further develop the publication program;

· Negotiate and prepare publishing contracts;

· Maintain continuous cooperation and dialogue with marketing, sales, and production departments;

· Maintain communication with counterparts. Review and discuss new projects and plans with colleagues, particularly in overlapping areas;

· Maintain continuous cooperation and dialogue with operations to ensure final editorial preparation of manuscripts for production;

· Ensure that financial reports, status reports, budget forecasts, etc., can be made on the basis of readily accessible reports and materials;

· Attend major conferences and academic events relevant to the list;

· Assume additional duties as assigned.

Your profile:

· University degree;

· (Near) native-level fluency in English required and preferred two other languages;

· Minimum of 2-3 years working experience in academic publishing;

· Result-driven, creative thinker and commercial attitude;

· Business acumen and intercultural awareness;

· Strong networking skills and communication skills (both verbally and in writing);

· Affinity with financial basics;

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills;

· Affinity with developing multimedia information products.

What we offer:

The position will be based in the Netherlands. Blended working is a possibility. This function is evaluated as a grade VIII function and based on prior experience the salary range is between € 50.000 - € 62.500gross annually.
