We are seeking a Journal Launch and Development Manager to lead the launch and development of our new Open Science journals.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing a successful launch strategy, managing the editorial process, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve growth and success for the journal.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific publishing and a proven track record in launching and developing new scientific journals.

Responsibilities

  • Staying up-to-date with the latest trends in scientific publishing, identifying and evaluating opportunities for innovation
  • Working with the Head of Journal Publishing and other internal teams to shape newly identified topics into a clear journal scope and prepare for launch
  • Developing and executing a comprehensive launch strategy for new journals, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute set goals and plans, and ensuring the project delivers on time and to budget
  • Establishing top-quality editorial boards by identifying, profiling and reaching out to researchers
  • Onboarding new Editors and providing full support in their daily work
  • Overseeing the editorial process, including managing the peer-review process and ensuring high-quality content during the launch period
  • Monitoring and analysing journal performance metrics and identifying areas for improvement
  • Representing the company externally and developing and managing relationships with key opinion leaders and authors in the scientific community

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a scientific discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in scientific publishing, with a focus on journal development and launch
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication in written and spoken English and a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise a varied workload under pressure, work within a dynamic environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of open access publishing models and scholarly communication trends
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a scientific discipline
  • Experience working with open access / open science publishing models
  • Familiarity with online peer-review systems
