We have an exciting opportunity to join our journals team based in China on a permanent basis as an Editorial Assistant. While based in China, this role will work collaboratively with our team in Bristol, UK.

As an Editorial Assistant you will join our high performing peer review team and play a vital role in ensuring excellent customer service to our authors and reviewers. Responsible for the administration of the publishing process, you will work mainly electronically, following set working procedures to ensure our company database is updated accurately and promptly in order to maintain an excellent level of customer service and data quality.

Excellent author and reviewer service contributes to the attraction and retention of top authors, and is critical to the future success of IOP Publishing’s journal business. As the primary point of contact for authors and reviewers, and through the administration of one or more journal titles, Editorial Assistants drive articles through the publication process from receipt to publication and beyond. Editorial Assistants also work as part of one or more journal teams, supporting in-house peer review and production staff, as well as maintaining good quality data in our systems.

Happy to work independently as well as within a team, you will be able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and also be adaptable and quick to learn. With a proactive approach to work, you will have excellent attention to detail in order to work to very high standards of accuracy when entering data and in written correspondence.

Please note that this is a full-time, hybrid position. As there will not be a requirement for the person in this role to be in the office on a weekly basis, we are open to considering applicants from a wider geographical area who are happy to travel to the Beijing office for monthly/quarterly team meetings, subject to business needs.

About you:

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A good general education, ideally with a degree or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese.
  • Computer literate in Office 365 products (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook); with ability to learn new computer skills.
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal).
  • Excellent organizational, time and task management skills; methodical in approach.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good team working skills.
  • Previous experience in using a database or in customer service would be an advantage, however full training will be provided.
  • No prior knowledge of physics or publishing is necessary for this particular role.
