Position: Clinical EditorsContract: Permanent Part-time (4 days per week)Salary: From £60,542 per annum pro rataStart date: ASAPBMJ is seeking two Clinical Editors, to be based in our Editorial department. The roles will develop clinical and academic sections of The BMJ in rotation (namely education, scholarly comment, and research), and provide editorial support, oversight, research integrity support and liaison when working with other BMJ Journals.Responsibilities- Set, develop and implement the editorial strategy for the relevant section or workstream- Manage staff in the relevant section/workstream and matrix-manage and work with other teams such as multimedia, technical editors and production- Request and organise the budget and other allocated resources for the relevant section/workstream- Lead the section’s response to complaints and take the lead on ethical issues- Weekly participation in The BMJ’s Duty Editor rota and Rapid Responses rota, as agreed with the Executive Editor for content, and attending The BMJ’s weekly editorial management meeting and monthly Senior Editorial Group meeting- Participate in ‘new project’ and editorial teams to ensure joined-up working within the department- Provide clinical input to editorial teams- Act as an ambassador for The BMJ and the BMJ Journals and their values, including in external outreach to promote the journals and develop relationships- Deliver and support production of high quality clinical content in a timely manner for digital and print - mainly articles but also audio and video content where appropriate.QualificationsThree areas of experience are relevant to the job. The post holder will ideally possess experience in all three areas, but the relative experience in each will vary by individual.- A medical degree is preferable.- Editorial experience on a general medical journal at assistant editor or senior editor level, including in commissioning, peer review, editing, and writing.- Experience in critical appraisal (including of research papers), and using evidence in the editing of opinion and education articles.- Clinical experience to inform editorial decision making and to ensure relevance of articles to The BMJ's readers.Closing date for applications: Sunday 2nd May 2021 at 23:59Why should you apply?BMJ is a global healthcare knowledge provider with a vision for a healthier world.
