Understanding the Market for E-Books: An STM Practical Workshop
The London Book Fair, Earls Court

16 April 2008  9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Marlborough Room

Who should attend
Mid to senior level publishing managers in product development: editorial, marketing, production or business development - from smaller and larger organisations.

Overview
Emphasising what we have learned to date, this workshop will provide information about what the market says it wants and the strategies some major companies are using to fill the need.

Programme Topics
The working group on e-Books, part of JISC Collections (UK), has gathered a lot of information from library sources. A representative will provide
•    information about libraries understanding their patrons needs
•    libraries own technical needs if they are to provide a good user experience.

Surveys from the Centre for Publishing at the University College London (UCL) will provide focused analysis.

Lessons learned from the focus groups run by the e-learning group of the Publishers Association will also be provided.

Finally there will be presentations from two major publishers who have studied and worked with market needs and will report on reactions to actual products.

Organizer & Chair
Anthony Watkinson, Director of Training and Education STM; Director of Industry Liaison, Centre for Publishing, University College London; and Dentistry Publisher at Wiley-Blackwell
