Sharon M. Jordan

Sharon M. Jordan is an independent consultant, having retired from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information in December 2011, where she had served as Assistant Director for Program Integration since August 2003. She is providing project coordination for the FundRef pilot project, supporting the working group of scholarly publishers and research funders facilitated by CrossRef. Sharon began working on the concept behind FundRef while with DOE as an extension of her career-long dedication to enhancing access to scientific and technical information (STI) and continues to contribute her extensive knowledge of government information policies, practices and systems where needed. Her federal career spanned over 37 years in a range of areas dealing with the publication of federal research results, and she was instrumental in transforming STI policies and systems to a web-based infrastructure. Responsibilities included the Department-wide STI Program, working with national laboratories and Headquarters program officials, as well as forging collaborations across agencies. Sharon served July 2010-December 2011 as Deputy Chair of CENDI, an interagency consortium of senior STI managers from 12 U.S. agencies that represent 97% of the federal R&D budget. Capping her federal career, Sharon received the 2011 CENDI Meritorious Service Award for her tireless, exemplary service and support to CENDI and her leadership in the development and promotion of CENDI’s premier flagship project, Science.gov.
