Richard Gedye

Richard Gedye acts as STM's Director of  Outreach Programmes, with responsibility for the management of three main initiatives -  the Research 4 Life (HINARI, AGORA and OARE) programmes, sponsored by the WHO, FAO and the United Nations Environment Programme respectively, which offer free or very low cost access to journals for researchers and clinicians in the developing world;  patientINFORM where publishers work with patient groups to provide patients and carers with access to the latest research, as well as help interpreting that information; and STM's library relations programme which aims to bring together two key intermediary player groups in the scholarly information distribution chain via a programme of formal events and informal collegial discussions on the major issues of the day.

From 1991 till 2010 Richard worked at OUP, heading up ,marketing, sales, and research at various stages during this time. Prior to that he held a number of marketing roles in the academic division of Macmillan.

In 2002 he helped found COUNTER (http://www.projectcounter.org/), an international organisation which has established a common code of practice for vendor-based online usage statistics, and which he chaired till 2010.
