Kaitlin Thaney

Kaitlin Thaney is a technologist, open advocate, and data enthusiast. She serves as the manager of external partnerships for Digital Science, a technology company that works to make research more efficient.

She hails from the open science world, most recently serving as manager of the science programs at Creative Commons (formerly "Science Commons"). She co-organises Science Foo Camp ("Sci Foo" for short), an annual unconference thrown with O'Reilly Media and Google with the help of Nature, and serves as the London co-chair for O'Reilly's Strata Conference series on big data. In March 2012, she was named a founding member of the e-infrastructure Leadership Council convened by David Willetts, the UK Minister for universities and science, where she represents the needs of startups and academics.

Prior to her time at Digital Science and Creative Commons, she worked in education technology, managing communications for a research alliance between MIT and Microsoft. She also spent time at Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, a leading First Amendment think tank in DC and prior to that was a reporter for The Boston Globe.
