Jose-Marie Griffiths

Dr. Jose Marie Griffiths has a research and administrative career that spans over 35 years. She has been Chief Information Officer at the University of Michigan and at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville among her many executive level higher education appointments.  She has had a number of U.S. Presidential and Congressional appointments, including serving on the National Science Board and the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee.  Additionally, she has had appointments as lead or key personnel for over 28 U.S. federal agencies, departments, and offices.  She has led projects with 7 major international organizations, led projects and/or been invited to make presentations in over 40 countries and 32 U.S. states, and has provided leadership for over 20 non-profit, state, and community major endeavors.  Her corporate experience has included servicing as Vice President of King Research, Inc. directing research projects in the design, development and evaluation of advanced information systems, economics of information and information systems, scholarly communication, and the evolving information profession. Dr. Griffiths’ has extensive experience with the topic, is the principal investigator for the Collegis Leadership Alliance study she will be reporting, and has presented at numerous seminars on similar topics.

Dr. Griffiths’ contributions have been recognized by over 20 significant awards in science, technology, teaching and the advancement of women in these fields. These include the American Society for Information Science and Technology’s Award of Merit and Research Award, Top 25 Women of the Web Award, Information Technology Associations of Michigan Award for contributions to the IT industry in Michigan, the University of Michigan’s Outstanding Leadership Award and the University of Tennessee’s Outstanding Faculty Award.
