George Garrity

George Garrity is a Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University and co-founder of NamesforLife, LLC. The company was formed to commercialize a generalized semantic resolution method that operates as a DOI service that he and Catherine Lyons conceived while developing the DTD and content of Bergey’s Manual of Systematic Bacteriology. The NamesforLife approach leverages externally managed taxonomies to provide both on-the-fly and embedded annotation of biological names and terms in digital content and deep linking to contextually related content. The method also provides the underpinnings of a novel approach for indexing, searching and cross-linking the STM and patent literature.
