Wiley is one of the world’s leading scholarly publishers. This Senior Journal Publishing Manager opening is a brand new role in our growing global Society Services team. As SJPM, you’ll manage and develop around 10 journals in the life sciences, helping a diverse group of society partners and their communities to make a difference in the world. Working collaboratively with smart, friendly and highly skilled colleagues across our global organisation, you will enjoy unrivalled scope to further develop your skills in communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship building. Championing excellent service, you will proactively ensure that you understand the evolving needs of the scientific communities you work with and that our relationships with society partners continue to thrive. You will also make an important contribution to the strategic development of our life sciences portfolio, working on a host of new business opportunities, from community-focused events and initiatives, to signing new society partnerships.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have proven experience of working in publishing, with a flair for building relationships with colleagues and clients. Highly driven and well-organised, you will have a strong focus on achieving goals. You will bring excellent communication skills and a winning personality to the role.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining excellent relationships with society partners and journal editors
  • Working closely with internal and external partners to grow the impact, visibility and readership of your titles
  • Negotiating contract terms for titles, taking responsibility for successful renewal or renegotiation
  • Managing financial performance of your journals, including price-setting, budgeting and expenditure decisions
  • Attending and hosting editorial board and publication committee meetings, presenting reports and innovations, leading strategy sessions and workshops
  • Attending relevant conferences and industry events to keep up-to-date with latest developments in relevant subject areas and in publishing, as well as to build new relationships and expand personal networks, and to represent Wiley as the leading society publisher
  • Assisting with business development through subject area growth
