Read Michael Mabe's letter in the Financial Times

On 10 September 2007, the Financial Times published STM's CEO Michael Mabe’s letter ‘Paying for research does not pay for its publication.’  Mabe’s letter responds to James Boyle’s 4 September article ‘The irony of a web without science.’  According to Mabe, ‘ The genius of the web does indeed allow us all to communicate more easily; and STM publishers have been at the forefront.’
