Publisher Warning - Increase in Fraudulent 'Call for Papers' activity

In December 2007, STM reported that a fraudulent ‘Call for Papers’ message was appearing on some scientific Internet sites and forwarded to library listservs. The fraudsters referenced Elsevier as the sender of the message in an attempt to encourage authors to part with money.  We have recently learned that organisations perpetrating this type of fraud are now citing Wiley-Blackwell as the source of a similar ‘Call for Papers’ message and may also be using the names of other respected publishers in similar phishing scams.

If you come across any e-mails of this type, please do not respond to them, but contact the publishers directly.

For Elsevier, please forward the e-mail to eesservices@elsevier.com.

For Wiley-Blackwell, please forward the e-mail to sspilka@wiley.com.
